TIMco sponsors local man’s race for stem cell donors

TIMco, one of the UK’s largest, independent and fastest growing wholesalers to the construction industry, is proud to sponsor local man Peter McCleave and Team 10,000 Donors from DKMS, a global blood stem cell charity, as he participates in this year’s Crumball Rally’s Italian Job route.

Peter, who lives locally in Bunbury, has terminal blood cancer and has been looking for a stem cell donor. In a bid to raise awareness, Peter and three friends are taking part in the three-day race between 6th to 9th September to try and persuade people to sign up to the donor register which now totals 30,000 people.

Crumball Rally, loosely based on the Italian Job film, requires participants to race a ‘banger’ worth no more than £200 from Reims in northern France, via the Alps, and ending in Nice. They’ll then take the car to Germany, where DKMS was founded, to continue the campaign.

Earlier in the year, TIMco HQ began their support for Peter and DKMS by setting up the joint venture ‘Donate for a Donut’, where employees were encouraged to give a swab in return for sweet treats!

Simon Midwood, director of TIMco, named DKMS as the company’s National Chosen Charity. He said: “We look to support local and national initiatives each year, and this one really struck a chord. We’re here to create as much awareness as we can to back this excellent cause and support Peter in his adventure across Europe.”

A team from TIMco has also recently completed a 100km Manchester charity bike ride for The Christie, and have pledged 25,000 items of their screw stock and recycled wood for local not-for-profit bee conservation organisation ‘Bees in the Community’ as part of the company’s support for local causes too.
